Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup crushed Oreo cookies (about 10-12 cookies)
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup crushed Oreo cookies (about 10-12 cookies)

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9x13-inch baking pan.
  • In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  • In a saucepan, combine the melted butter, water, and cocoa powder. Bring to a boil, then pour it over the dry ingredients.
  • Mix until smooth.Add the eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in the sour cream and vanilla extract.
  • Fold in the crushed Oreo cookies until evenly distributed in the batter.
  • Pour the batter into the prepared pan and smooth the top. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  • While the cake is baking, prepare the frosting. In a bowl, beat together the softened butter, powdered sugar, cocoa powder, milk, and vanilla extract until creamy. Fold in the crushed Oreo cookies.
  • Once the cake is cooled, spread the frosting evenly over the top.
  • Optionally, garnish with additional crushed Oreo cookies.
  • Cut into squares and serve.

Notes

For an extra Oreo flavor, consider adding a layer of whole Oreo cookies in the middle of the batter before baking.
