Ingredients
  

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 and 3/4 cups buttermilk

Instructions
 

  • Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Dust a baking sheet with flour.
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, baking soda, and salt.
  • Make a well in the center of the dry ingredients and pour in the buttermilk.
  • Mix the ingredients together until a soft dough forms.
  • Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead lightly, shaping it into a round loaf.
  • Place the loaf on the prepared baking sheet and use a sharp knife to make a deep "X" on the top.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 15 minutes, then reduce the temperature to 400°F (200°C) and continue baking for an additional 20-25 minutes, or until the bread is golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom.
  • Allow the bread to cool on a wire rack before slicing.
