Oatmeal Breakfast Ideas

I get a lot of people complain that they just don’t know what to do when it comes to making oatmeal. Honestly I don’t get it, Oatmeal is the simplest and most versatile breakfast to have. While there are very “fancy” and complicated oatmeal recipes, I keep mine very basic in order to have it in a timely fashion. Let’s be honest as a weekday breakfast food nobody has an hour to just to make breakfast, you want it to be ready in 10 minutes or less even. So here are some of my favorite and easy ways to make oatmeal.

First the basics; There are different kinds of oats and the cooking process and time will depend n what type they are. Instant oats are the easiest option as you just have to microwave them but they contain sweeteners and additives so no good! Old fashioned oats are the best and make really good porridge but they take the longest to cook, some brands up to 2 hours! no way jose ! So I personally settle for rolled oats as they require about 5-10 minutes to cook or can be soaked overnight to make overnight oats. Personally I get gasy if I don’t cook them so I make sure to cook them. Now that we know this Let me show you the formula I use to make oats.

  1. Bring water to boil
  2. Add the oats in
  3. While stirring add milk or cream
  4. While still stirring add fruits (berries, pineapple chunks, fresh orange juice, banana, apples etc ) This is usually my sweetener, and as fruit cooks it tends to get sweeter. What I like to do is blend the fruit and add it in for utmost sweetness, especially bananas.
  5. (optional) Add sweetener i.e sugar, honey, maple syrup etc
  6. Add flavor i.e Pumpkin puree, matcha powder, desiccated coconut, peanut butter, Turmeric powder, Chocolate etc
  7. Serve and top (nuts and seeds, or fruits work well as toppings)
  8. By this time, It’s been 10 minutes and my oatmeal is ready to eat.

Ok so Here are some beautiful options to begin with and work your way to oatmeal perfection!
